JFS was established in 1929. The agency is a local, 501(c)(3) non-profit social service organization. It serves individuals and families in RI and nearby Massachusetts regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or economic status. For over 80 years, JFS has been helping people navigate services so that their lives are happier, safer, and healthier.
Our mission is to sustain, nurture and strengthen the emotional and general well-being and stability of families and individuals through the life cycle, within the frame work of Jewish tradition and values.

Staff at Jewish Family Service are highly trained professionals. Their credentials include Marriage and Family Therapists, Masters of Social Work (MSW) degrees, additional post-graduate experience, and many are licensed social workers (LICSWs), Registered Nurses (RNs), or Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
Moreover, JFS recognizes the crucial importance of staff development. That’s why staff receive continuous professional educational training and provides field instruction to graduate and undergraduate students.

Though our services are extremely varied, there are common threads that run throughout each program.

The JFS staff is truly a family. The clinicians tend to stay with JFS for years. This stability enhances the agency’s ability to better service you. Consistency contributes to the trust that develops between client and staff member.

JFS’ trademark is quick response time. At JFS, your call is answered without delay. If you require an appointment, it will be scheduled promptly and an initial assessment is made within five business days.

Privacy and trust are the foundations of our work and JFS prides itself on our respect for the client. All agency/client meetings, whether they are individual, group, or family, are held in the strictest confidence.
