Making Change: A Financial Literacy Initiative

Making Change: A Financial Literacy Initiative of Jewish Family Service of Rhode Island provides workshops, training, information referrals, and counseling services to increase the financial literacy of Rhode Islanders and members of neighboring communities. This program is designed to help people make smarter choices and to become more proactive, more aware, and less stressed with regard to money.

JFS has partnered with organizations such as the Rhode Island Society for Certified Public Accountants, the Housing Network of Rhode Island, and Jewish Vocational Service of Boston to bring educational programs to Rhode Island communities. Recent workshops have covered topics including Financial Literacy 101 for High School Students; Smart Financial Planning for Same-Sex Partners; Weathering the Storm: Tools and Tips for Navigating the Current Recession; and a Sandwich Generation Series covering topics ranging from how to save for a child’s college education and retirement simultaneously to estate planning and advocating for your elders.

Making Change is funded through a generous grant from Domestic Bank, through which Jewish Family Service has become a partner agency in a statewide Partnership for Financial Literacy (www.partnershipforfinancialliteracy.org).
